  • Dusk in the Village Goes Green
    This year residents of Sutherland and Golf Range Apartments were given an unusual request for the annual spring picnic. In their monthly newsletter residents were asked to BYOP or “Bring Your Own Plate.” In an effort to reduce waste and increase environmental awareness, the staff and residence associations of Sutherland and Golf Range Apartments asked residents to use reusable plates at the event. The UT Recycling program provided compost and recycling bins to further reduce waste creation.

  • Spring Cleaning Success!
    Students moving out of campus residence halls donated almost 6 tons of clothes and household items to Goodwill and more than 500 pounds of food to Second Harvest! This material, potentially destined for the landfill, will now go to help others in need. Donated items included ironing boards, clothing with tags still attached, school supplies, and many, many packages of Raman Noodles.

  • Destination ImagiNation Goes Green
    This year’s participants in Designation ImagiNation Made Orange Green by recycling, composting, diverting waste, dining without trays, and more! Over 10,500 pounds of material was composted and recycled during the event.

Make Orange Green is a comprehensive program that promotes and coordinates environmental stewardship activities at the University of Tennessee. A collaborative effort between the Committee on the Campus Environment, the Facilities Services Department, the Office of Public Relations, and the Student Environmental Initiatives Committee, Make Orange Green works to coordinate environmental activities within all areas of campus.
