Our Mission
Established in 2007, the UT Office of Sustainability aims to foster sustainable development and promote environmental stewardship at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, by strategically bridging the gap between campus operations, teaching, research, and outreach.

Since 2008, Sustainability Manager Gordie Bennett has directed activities of the UT Office of Sustainability. Gordie has led efforts to reduce the university’s ecological footprint by tracking and reporting campus energy use and carbon emissions, developing sustainability education/outreach materials, and advocating for sustainable campus operations. Gordie serves on the steering committee of the Tennessee Higher Education Sustainability Association (THESA) and has a master's degree in community planning from the University of Cincinnati. |
| Sustainability Outreach Coordinator and CAC AmeriCorps Member Hannah Slodounik has a B.S. in Environmental Science (’12) from the University of Redlands. As a student, Hannah promoted environmental literacy on her campus and in the community as co-founder and Sustainability Chair of an environmentally-focused sorority and as volunteer with Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots. Hannah attended the School for Field Studies School for Sustainable Development in Costa Rica and interned for the City of St. Louis’ Office of Sustainability during summer 2012. |

Elizabeth Warriner is the Office of Sustainability’s 2012-13 Sustainability Intern. Currently a sophomore at UT, Elizabeth is majoring in Geography with a focus in Environmental Studies and Sustainability. As an intern, she is assisting with the development and implementation of environmental education and outreach programs. Elizabeth is passionate about sustainability, and she is pursuing a career in environmental resource management. |
