Bike to Work Day

May 12, 2008

Celebrate Bike to Work Day with Smart Trips on Friday, May 16th from 7:30-8:30 AM!

Whether you’re already biking to work or just starting out, stop by the ground floor entrance to Hodges Library (Pedestrian Mall side) for a treat from Smart Trips! Bike commuters will receive a coupon for free coffee and a pastry, as well as a tire patch kit! Smart Trips works to promote driving alternatives such as carpooling, taking transit, biking, and walking to work. Sign up to participate in the Smart Trips program.

May is Smart Trips Month!

Smart Trips is a program administered by the City of Knoxville that promotes alternatives to driving alone. More than 90% of residents of East Tennessee commute to work by driving alone.

With increased driving expenses and driving-related environmental impact the Smart Trips program works to promote driving alternatives such as carpooling, taking transit, biking, and walking to work. In the event of an unexpected change in your schedule, you can take advantage of the Emergency Ride Home perk (faculty and staff only)!

Did you know that driving just 12 miles one way to work each day, you are probably spending about $2,000 a year in commuting expenses? Save money and reduce your environmental impact by enrolling in Smart Trips. Along with savings at the pump you’ll also be able to enter your commutes in your online Commute Log to earn great rewards.
